NORTHERN ISRAEL: SEPTEMBER

The array of migrant raptors increases almost daily, with 50 to 100,000 Lesser Spotted Eagles and 20 to 40,000 Levant Sparrowhawks arriving this month. Pacific Golden Plover is now virtually annual and even Pectoral Sandpiper and Blyth's Pipit have been found in recent years. Small numbers of Sociable Plover are often present, and flocks of Black-winged Pratincole may number 50 birds. This is perhaps the best month to try for Egyptian Nightjar in the Bet She'an Valley and to observe Blue-cheeked Bee-eater passage through the Jordan Valley. Toward the end of month majestic flocks of Red-footed Falcon hunt over fields.
